If you&#8217;ve always dreamed of starting your own business, <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">retirement<\/span> could provide the perfect opportunity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><a name=\"_Hlk510604044\">It&#8217;s a good idea to get a financial checkup before you go full bore into entrepreneurship. According to one angel investor, you don&#8217;t have to have an MBA. Talent. You need be able to get things done and have <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">fanatical<\/span> dedication to your cause.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo4;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">2.<span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span>2. Technology. This should never be an after-thought. If you need <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">tech<\/span> to fund, produce, market, sell <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">and\/or<\/span> distribute your product, then it&#8217;s <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">just<\/span> as important as your product itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo4;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">3.<span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span>3. Traction. Your product is only &#8220;a great idea&#8221; if people are willing to pay their hard-earned cash to buy it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Marketing is key to selling your product, and networking at trade shows and conferences <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">is often seen<\/span> as a great way to spread the word. Here are tips to help maximize these networking opportunities:<sup>2<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Don&#8217;t just sell your product; market yourself. Let those you&#8217;re talking with know what you&#8217;re good at and what drives you.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">If you hate networking, just smile. Look like a friendly person. Think of it as simply meeting new people, not as a make-or-break event. It may take a while to get your pitch down, so view every conversation as an opportunity to practice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">You might form a wonderful bond with another attendee, but if you can&#8217;t help each other professionally, exchange contact information and move on. Don&#8217;t waste a marketing opportunity to form a new friendship; you can do that later.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Warren Buffett once gave this advice to a 24-year-old budding entrepreneur:<sup>3<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Before you go to sleep each night, ask yourself if you learned something new that day.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Pick up the phone. Don&#8217;t run away from problems; instead, confront them head-on.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">No matter how successful you become, stay humble.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The following are three bits of wisdom from the recently departed Stephen Hawking that can help entrepreneurs problem solve and not get frustrated when they experience setbacks:<sup>4<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo5;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">1.<span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span>1. Always be grateful. Even when things go wrong, there are <span style=\"mso-no-proof: yes;\">always<\/span> positives to appreciate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo5;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">2.<span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span>2. Imperfection leads to opportunity. It gives us problems to solve, and therein marketable ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\" style=\"text-indent: -.25in; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo5;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><!--[if !supportLists]--><span style=\"mso-list: Ignore;\">3.<span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span>3. Never give up. Once you do, there&#8217;s no chance of success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Perhaps you&#8217;ve been a successful entrepreneur and have sold your business for a healthy profit. You&#8217;re all set for retirement. What now? What can a person with that &#8220;go get &#8217;em&#8221; spirit do to stretch his entrepreneurial muscles without taking on the burden of another company?<sup>5<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Consult. Help other entrepreneurs get the coaching they need for success.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: small; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Freelance. Take on temporary gigs or projects that interest you.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-indent: -0.25in; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Volunteer.
