Americans are so busy that they often
\nhave a hard time balancing demands for work and their personal lives. In fact,
\nparticipants in a recent survey reported having only an average of 26 minutes
\nof free time each week.1<\/sup><\/p>\n

Where does the time go? The Bureau
\nof Labor Statistics reports that women have not only increased the number of
\nhours they work outside the home, but they also are spending more time caring
\nfor children and doing housework.2<\/sup> <\/p>\n

Then again, today\u2019s average adult spends
\nan hour and a half online daily.3<\/sup> Of course, that could include time-saving
\ntasks such as shopping for groceries and paying bills, so it may not be completely
\nsocial or leisure time.<\/p>\n

Perhaps if Americans spent as much
\ntime planning for retirement as we do planning for meals or checking sports
\nscores, we wouldn\u2019t be as concerned with running out of money. Time is a funny
\nthing; it can work with you or it can work against you. Over time, inflation
\ncan put a dent in purchasing power \u2014 particularly once you live on a fixed
\nincome. If you\u2019ve got longevity in your genes, you may want to consider ways to
\nhelp make your money last longer. We believe time is the best way to earn
\ninterest and grow wealth. If you\u2019re looking for ways you can use time to your
\nadvantage or leverage your assets to help create income throughout retirement,
\nwe have ideas.<\/p>\n

One of those ideas is to consider purchasing
\nan annuity contract. Annuities are a financial product that can provide a
\nlifetime insurer-guaranteed payout, so no matter how long you live, you can
\nstill receive a minimum level of income. It\u2019s important to keep in mind that annuities
\nare insurance contracts designed for retirement, and they provide guarantees of
\nprincipal and credited interest, subject to surrender charges. <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re running out of time
\nbefore retirement, it\u2019s never too late to buckle down and start living well
\nbelow your means. Start by determining how much you need to save each month,
\nand devise a budget around that number. This is also good practice for retirement.
\n4<\/sup><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re thinking of selling your
\nhome or downsizing, now may be a good time. Mortgage rates are still historically
\nlow, but residential prices remain high due to low inventory, creating an ideal
\nseller\u2019s market. This trend may not continue in the coming months as threats of
\na recession loom. Once home prices drop, buyers have more options and
\nnegotiating power. 5<\/sup><\/p>\n
